Kaori laughed at the comment. "Right now, nothing gets in the way of my night..." she said, taking another sip of her drink again. "This night, nothing matters...everyone is my friend." She smiled. "So that means that tonight, we are friends."

Ryosei smiled. "Glad to hear it. The last thing I want to do whenever I'm off duty is run into any trouble. I seem to make a lot of unlikely friends with pirates whenever we don't meet over 'work'."
He looked down at his glass and swirled it's contents around absent-mindedly, his smile fading a little. "I get better acquainted to some than I should..." he murmured, more to himself than to Kaori.

"So I've seen," Kaori said, not mentioning she was keen to the feelings of others, no matter how hard they tried to hide it. She just never really spoke of that talent. She then changed the subject. "Maybe we're all just friends, rather than enemies. It's just the job that turns us against each other."

"That's not a bad way to look at things," Ryosei replied, taking another sip of his drink.
A burst of drunken cheers came from a corner of a tavern, and Ryosei turned his head to see one drunk holding another in a headlock. He shook his head and turned back to Kaori.
"When I was fresh in the corps and hadn't ever had any real experience with pirates, I would always catergorise you with people like that mob over there," he said, gesturing with a cock of his head. "It wasn't until I met..." he stopped abruptly, then continued, "...someone in the pirate business that I saw what a stereotype that was."
(OOC: Happy new year! ^_^)

Kaori nodded, knowing what he was talking about. She had seen it in her captain's eyes as well. "Some of ARE like that," she said, and frowned disgusted and shrugged. "I guess it's a way of life for some people."

Ryosei opened his mouth to reply, but was distracted by a tap on his shoulder. Turning to the side, he came face to face to a burly, unshaven man with a red nose and strong liqeur on his breath. Ryosei winced at the stench as the man, who was obviously drunk, slurred "Any change? I'm a few pieces short."
Ryosei turned and glanced at Kaori, raising an eyebrow, before returning to face the drunk. "No, I think you've had enough, buddy," he replied. "Maybe you and your friends should think about heading home," he added, noticing a large crowd of his drunken friends watching them.
The man stared daggers at the blue-browed elf, muttering under his breath and creeping over to Kaori. Ryosei noticed the gang frowning and muttering to each other as the man asked Kaori the same thing. "'ow about you? Ya got any cash?"

"Most likely I do," Kaori said, frowning as his foul breath reached her nose. "But it's not for you. Now back off." She shoved the drunken man off and away.

The man grunted in annoyance and spun around, once again finding Ryosei. "Cash?"
Ryosei wasn't amused anymore. "You've asked me already. I said I think you've had enough. You should probably start heading back to wherever you're staying, and maybe you should take your friends with you."
The man's face twisted into a snarl. "I ain't goin' nowhere 'til I've got me another drink," he spat, his face painfully close to the elf's. "And one of you'ze is gonna gimme the silver whether ya want to or not."

"And how do you suppose that'll happen, old man?" Kaori said sarcastically, not even facing him in disrespect. "I suppose you'll beat it out of us?" She shook her head. It was quite a pathetic sight.

Before he knew what was happening, Ryosei was shoved backwards and off his barstool by a hefty swing of the drunkard's arm, landing quite painfully on his hindquarters. "Ouch!" he exclaimed silently, wincing.
The drunkard didn't bother with the elf anymore, instead focusing his anger upon the pirate. "Ya took the thoughts right out of my head, girly," he slurred angrily, clenching his fists.
Ryosei pushed himself up off the ground and took an angry look at the madly sniggering crowd of the man's friends. Clearly, the fight he had intended to avoid had come along anyway. At least I'm not on my own this time, he thought wearily.

"I'm not going to waste my time on you," Kaori said, glaring at him. She changed her attention to Ryosei, yet still prepared for the worst from the drunkie. "You okay?"

"I'm fine," Ryosei began, rubbing his backside, but the drunkard cut him off.
"I'd be a little more worried yourself, girly," he slurred menacingly, a knife appearing in his clenched fist.
Ryosei's eyes opened wide. "Watch it!"

"Whoa...lo and behold, the drunkie has a knife!" Kaori said, reaching for her dagger which she hid in her sash. She pulled it out swiftly as she finished her drink. "Can't let that get to waste..."

Ryosei didn't know why he worried. The pirate obviously knew how to take care of herself. Instead, he just waited and watched as the drunkard took one wild, uncoordinated swing at Kaori.

Kaori took one very useful sidestep, completely dodging the drunkard's attack. This was quite pathetic, and useless...but fun. Kaori smirked. "Is that all you can do? My grandmother could beat you into the ground." Kaori knew she was probably talking too much, but she had the skill to back it up.
